Motivation for the Week of February 27, 2023
Fun Fact: Michael Phelps shares a birthday with me! (June 30th).
We usually say that if something were so easy, everyone would be doing it. If it were easy to exercise, everyone would be in the gym and probably be fit and healthy. We wouldn’t have to worry about diseases or other illnesses. Unfortunately, life doesn’t work that way.
A goal should be achievable and realistic, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. Not only do you have to put in the effort, but you also have to factor in accountability and discipline. Last week, I talked about how achieving your goals doesn’t have to be a solo excursion. Your peers and family members will keep you on track (as well as your personal trainer 😁). Discipline is in your hands, though. You have to keep yourself in check. You have the power to schedule when you work out and what you do at that time. Do whatever it takes: put it on your phone, create signs to place in every room, remind yourself on your computer, or even make it a part of your phone’s wallpaper.
I believe the uncomfortable part of achieving goals is the possibility of failure. Your response to failure will determine how you will get up and keep marching toward your goal. The uneasy feeling of, “What if I fail,” or, “What happens if I don’t achieve my goal,” comes with the pursuit.
I want you to picture this: at the end of your life, you will meet the person you were meant to be. Will it be a mirror reflection or will it fall short of expectations? Put in the effort, learn from your failures, and stay persistent. Those will carry you a long way en route to your goals.
